TO JOHN ALWORTHY, ESQ.
While I, remov'd from noise and show,
Can write my thoughts just as they flow;
I will, in Hudibrastic strains,
Give you the humours of our plains:
. . . [54 lines]
And tho' we boast no balls or plays,
Yet we, on Christmas holydays,
And other times, to please our fancy's,
Have what is better--country dances,
And healthy cricket once a year,
To make blood circulate the fre'er.
. . . [26 lines, to be continued]
